my CV

Mozaffar Abdollahifar was born in 1983, Kermanshah province, Iran. He studied from primary to high school in Kermanshah. He received bachelor degrees from the University of Sahid Rajaee in 2006: the B.A. in Chemical Industries. He then attended the Sahand University of Technology and He received M.S degrees in Chemical engineering in 2010. Mozaffar joined the RCRC at SUT as a Student and Researcher in the fall of 2007 to now. His main research focus is in Nano-Catalyst and Reactors for CO2 Reforming of Methane and Steam Reforming Methanol as well as Thermodynamic Evaluation of Partial Oxidation of Methane for Natural Gas Utilization. He has published almost 45 refereed journal papers and conference papers until 2012.

Thesis title:           Synthesis of Nanocatalyst for CH4 Reforming Using Ultrasonic Energy

Thesis abstract:

Carbon dioxide reforming of methane (CRM) (or dry reforming) to synthesis gas has received great attention in the past two decades. Synthesis gas, a mixture of H2 and CO, is an important feedstock for several chemical processes operated in the production of methanol and synthetic fuels through a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The process has great potential in converting methane and carbon dioxide (two major greenhouse gases) into synthesis gas as shown by reaction CH4 + CO2 = 2CO + 2H2. This reaction plays a potentially important role in industry in generating synthesis gas with a low H2/CO ratio that can be preferentially used for the production of liquid hydrocarbons in the Fischer Tropsch synthesis. Thermodynamic calculations indicate that there is also a potential for the formation of carbon. Dry reforming reaction is accompanied by several side reactions. The most important reactions are the reverse water–gas shift reaction. So far, the CH4-CO2 reforming has been studied over numerous supported metal catalysts including Ni-based catalysts as well as noble metal-based ones. In this project, CRM was investigated in a fixed bed reactor using γ-Al2O3, Al2MgO4 (Al2O3-MgO) supported Co-Ni and Cu-Ni based catalysts with varying Co (1 - 15 wt %), Cu (1 - 6 wt %) and 10% Ni loadings were prepared using impregnation and sonochemical methods. The catalysts prepared from sonochemical method are usually Nano-sized particle. Nano-sized particle catalysts showed better catalytic activity as compared with conventional catalysts and are promising for the CH4-CO2 reforming. All prepared catalysts were characterized with BET analysis, X-ray diffraction (XRD), SEM, TEM, H2-TPR and H2-TPD techniques. The performances of all the synthesized catalysts were tested at a pressure of 1 atm, and temperatures of 600 - 900 °C in a laboratory pilot for CO2 Reforming of Methane.
