I was born in Iran, in 1982. I have finished my BSc in Chemical engineering at Sahand University of Technology, Iran, with good marks in 2005. Then I completed my MSc degree and achieved the highest marks on my thesis: “Using Ultrasonic Energy for Preparation of Hydrodesulfurization Nano Catalysts” in 2007. I was also brilliant student in my university in both BSc and MSc degrees. I started my PhD program at the Reactor and Catalysis Research Center at Sahand University of Technology in 2008. I have been as a lecturer as well as researcher since 2008. I continued my PhD thesis under supervision of Ass. Prof. M. Haghighi and Prof. A. A. Babaluo, with the topic "CO2-Reforming of Methane on Innovative Nano-Catalysts Prepared via Non-Thermal Plasma Technology". Last year, I worked as a visiting researcher on the project of “Investigation of Fischer Tropsch Fe/Mn Model Catalysts” at Eindhoven University of Technology under supervision of Prof. Dr. J.W. (Hans) Niemantsverdriet. My focus is catalyst and reactor engineering, but I am not limited to these areas of research.

Thesis title:           CO2-Reforming of Methane on Innovative Nano-Catalysts Prepared via Non-Thermal Plasma Technology

Thesis abstract:

Ni based catalysts are active components in CO2 reforming of methane but carbonaceous deposits deactivate them rapidly. In this thesis glow discharge plasma was applied for treatment of Ni/Al2O3, Ni-Co/Al2O3, Ni/Al2O3-ZrO2 and Ni-Co/Al2O3-ZrO2 catalysts and its influences on catalyst structure was analyzed by XRD, FESEM, EDX-Dot Mapping, TEM, PSD, BET, FTIR, XPS and TG-DTG techniques. Characterization analyses indicated using plasma resulted in reduction of active phase size and enhanced its dispersion over the support. Flattening the catalyst morphology originated from plasma environment, increased the interaction between active phase and support and created a uniform morphology of nano-metric particles in attributed catalysts. Using cobalt as promoter of active phase resulted in controlling the size of NiO and ZrO2 as support promoter, besides homogenizing the morphology of the support, decreased the Ni particle size and suppressed the agglomeration of the catalyst particles. So that Ni-Co/Al2O3-ZrO2 nanocatalyst had a narrow particle size distribution with mean particle size of 31 nm. Evaluation of Ni/Al2O3, Ni-Co/Al2O3, Ni/Al2O3-ZrO2 and Ni-Co/Al2O3-ZrO2 catalysts in CO2 reforming of methane in a U-shape quartz reactor in the range of 550-850 ºC with feed ratio of CH4/CO2=0.5-2 showed plasma treated samples due to mentioned well-defined structure had superior activity in feed conversion and product yield than similar conventional catalysts. H2/CO parameter approached 1 at 850 ºC for Ni-Co/Al2O3-ZrO2 nanocatalyst which indicated the success of plasma treatment and also promoters like Co and ZrO2 in improving the catalyst activity.

Small size of active phase, their good dispersion and strong interaction of active phase and support due to plasma effects and presence of ZrO2 which with oxidation of coke inhibited coke depositions over the support caused a stable Ni-Co/Al2O3-ZrO2 catalyst. The stability test was performed during 1440 min, at 850 ºC, CH4/CO2=1, atmospheric pressure, GHSV=24 l/g.h with about 90% methane conversion.
