Yaser Vafaeian

Yaser has been born at Rasht, the biggest city of Guilan province in Iran. After his preliminary educations at this city, he entered Azad Islamic University of Shahreza for academic studies of chemical engineering. He passed his B.Sc. program in this field and in the branch of petrochemical engineering. Again for his M.Sc. program, he chose Sahand University of Technology to continue his investigation activities in this university and in the field of Chemical Engineering. He passed his M.Sc. program in this field in 2011. His final project of M.Sc. program was “Synthesis and Evaluation of Nano catalysts supported by ZSM-5 using ultrasound energy methods to use in dry reforming of methane” under supervision of Dr. Haghighi.

Thesis title:           Synthesis and Evaluation of nano catalysts supported by ZSM-5 using ultrasound energy methods to use in dry reforming of methane
Supervisor:
Dr. Mohammad Haghighi
Thesis abstract:

Application of dry methane reforming is improved in order to decrease of greenhouse gases, depletion of the earth’s temperature and conversion of these gases to useful syngas. Use of this process is due to capability of conversion of two important gases CO2 and methane to syngas. Catalysts that are used in this process are almost non-zeolite type. In this study, NiNO3 as an active phase precursor and water as a solvent is used to synthetize nano structure catalyst of Ni/ZSM-5. Synthetis of catalyst and dispersion of active phase over the support was carried out by ultrasound method. To investigate the chemical and physical properties of the catalyst, BET analysis was used to know the properties of the catalyst area; XRD to detect the crystal structure and dispersion of active phase over the catalyst; FTIR to distinguish the functional groups and bands between molecules; FESEM to detect the morphology and particle size distribution and TEM to know the dispersion of active phase; particle size and distribution of metal particle size over the catalyst.

Low-pressure pilot of dry reforming of methane was applied to study the conversion of greenhouse gases to syngas. For this purpose, the mixture of CO2 and methane was entered to the microreactor and after the reaction completed, the product gases was analysed by gas chromatography (GC). As a result it was observed that the nanocatalyst that was synthetizes by ultra sound method had the capability of conversion of the greenhouse to syngas and the catalyst with 8% wt of Ni had better performance respect to other catalysts.application of this catalyst for CO and H2 conversion had yields of 67 and 80%.
