Mojtaba Charghand

I was born in behbahan on may 13,1986. I grew up in behbahan. I entered Gachsaran University as a B.Sc, student in chemical engineering field in 2004. I started master of science degree at Sahand University of Technology in thermo-kinetic field in 2009. I have done my thesis under supervision of Dr. Haghighi, with a topic of "Synthesis of SAPO supported nanocatalysts via hydrothermal and ultrasound”.

Thesis abstract:

Huge reservoirs of natural gas as well as recently discovered gas fields, and declining oil reserves against significant increases in its price, have attracted the attentions of the researchers to use natural gas as the required feedstock for the petrochemical industries. In this regard, conversion of the methanol to olefins is a novel process to produce light olefins from methanol, which is derived from natural gas. Due to the market for ethylene and propylene, the consumption of non-oil resources as raw materials, MTO is an important process. The result of this survey for catalysis indicates that SAPO-34 molecular sieves have the best performance in the production of the light olefins. Application of different metals, especially transition metals, can enhance the quality of catalysts. In this research, the application of ultrasound method for better embedment of metals is investigated. Hereby, SAPO-34 and CeSAPO-34 were prepared by hydrothermal method, and hydrothermal-ultrasound method. Morpholine and tetra-ethyle ammonium hydroxide were used as templates. All the prepared samples were characterized by XRD, FTIR, FESEM, and BET analysis. Moreover, a low-pressure pilot for the conversion of methanol to olefin was fabricated to observe the performance of the catalysts, and the effects of different parameters such as temperature and stability of the catalysts were studied.

The results of XRD and FESEM for SAPO-34 (using tetra-ethyle amonium hydroxide as template and applying ultrasound) and CeSAPO-34 (using morpholine as template and applying ultrasound), accordingly showed a sufficient crystal size of 19 and 20 nm and particle size of 100-500 nm and 5-30 µm. The BET analysis indicates large special area for the catalysts, which was synthesized by ultrasound method. Moreover, according to the catalytic performance for the prepared samples, it is concluded that ultrasound method modifies samples in aspects of stability and activity much better. In these samples, a selectivity of 94-95 percent for olefins was obtained. Olefins selectivity for SAPO-34 (using tetra-ethyl ammonium hydroxide as template), CeSAPO-34 (using tetra-ethyl ammonium hydroxide as template) and CeSAPO-34 (using morpholine as template) without ultrasound method accordingly is 83, 47, 87 percent. Thus selectivity of prepared samples via ultrasound method was much more, rather than other methods.
