Abolfazl Amoozegar

Abolfazl was born in 1987. He entered Isfahan University of Technology in 2005 in chemical engineering field and graduated in 2010. He worked on nanotechnology & fuel cell as his B.Sc project under supervision of Prof. Seyed Gholamreza Etemad. He continued his M.Sc. degree at Sahand University of Technology in thermodynamics & kinetics branch focusing on catalysts and their preparation methods. He was an active member of SAPO group at Reactor & Catalysis Research Center and did his M.Sc. thesis under supervision of Dr. Haghighi.

Thesis title:           Effect of Si/Al Ratio on the Physicochemical Properties of Nanostructured SAPO-34 Catalyst Modified by La
Used in the Methanol to Olefins Process

Supervisor:
Dr. Mohammad Haghighi
Thesis abstract:

The growing demand for light olefins as feedstock in petrochemical industries, decreasing of crude oil underground resources and rising of its international price lead to especial attention for production of olefins from non-oil resources. In the methanol to olefin process, nanostructured SAPO-34 catalyst with medium acidity and mesopores shows high selectivity to light olefins. However, the main drawback of this molecular sieve is coking and rapid deactivation in methanol to olefins process. Various parameters could be effective on performance of SAPO-34 catalyst such as Si/Al ratio, metal incorporation into crystalline structure and synthesis time. By changing Si/Al ratio in primary gel, besides affecting catalyst structure, it will change the Si incorporation in the crystalline structure which leads to variation of catalysts acidity. Furthermore, the presence of metal ions, could affect acidity and catalyst performance. Crystallization time also is effective on formation of final crystalline structure. Therefore in this research, the effect of Si/Al ratio on physicochemical properties of nanostructured LaAPSO-34 catalyst and crystallization time were investigated. For this purpose, synthesized nanostructured catalysts were characterized by XRD, FESEM, FTIR, BET and EDX and evaluated in an experimental setup which designed and fabricated in Reactor and Catalysis Research Center at Sahand University of Technology. XRD and BET results showed that by incorporation of La, the crystallinity and specific surface area increased.

FESEM images and FTIR spectra confirmed tetrahedron SAPO-34 particles and bound of this zeolite structure, respectively. EDX results confirmed uniform dispersion of components. Results from catalysts performance tests showed that by incorporation of La into SAPO-34 structure, methane production decreased and optimum temperature for the highest production of light olefins decreased from 400 to 350ºC. It was also resulted that nanostructured LaAPSO-34 catalyst in optimum Si/Al ratio of 0.3 had the best performance. After 5400 min time on stream, it converted 90% of feed with light olefin selectivity of 60%. With increasing of crystallization time, the crystallinity and specific surface area increased. In addition nanostructured LaAPSO-34 catalyst synthesized in 72 h, had the most lifetime in time on stream tests.
